The Romantic Island, Bora Bora

By: Zuanita Arifin

Bora-Bora is an island in the Leeward group of the society Island of French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity of French in the Pasific Ocean. It is a major international tourist destination, famous for its aqua-centric luxury resorts. The name of “The Romantic Island” is given because of the dramatic scenery to the privacy and amenities of the overwater bungalows there. According to a census performed in 2008, the permanent population of Bora-Bora is 8.800.
As a romantic island, Bora-Bora offers many exciting places to see and interesting activities to do. You can stay at Le Meridian on Bora-Bora, which is a celebrated place to experience the magic of overwater bungalows. The Bora-Bora Lagoon Resort and Spa is laid back, wonderfully luxurious and has the best views of Mount Otemanu you will find. You can also see the Matira Beach Park, at Bora-Bora’s southern tip. It’s a white sand classic cooled by the trade winds.

If you love diving, there is snorkel in Bora-Bora’s shallow lagoon. You can swim out over the sandy bottom for any distance and you will see manta rays gliding gracefully below you. Another activity you can do is biking around Bora-Bora’s coastal road. To enjoy the great view, plan on making a half-day of it. Rent a bike on a day when the winds are gentle, pack a picnic, and go counterclockwise, which will put the breeze at your back on the windward side of the island.
Bora-Bora at night is so fantastic. Thousand of lamps light Bora-Bora when the night comes. You can have a candle light dinner with your partner at Le Tiare Restaurant at Le Meridien Resort. The floor is made by super thick glass, so you can see wild green sea turtles and hawksbill turtles swim under below.
This is a fact that Bora-Bora is a romantic island. If you want to have a honeymoon, it would be the best destination for you. Just like me, later after I get married, I will ask my husband to go there. :)
